Londoner Harry Wolfman returns to Dirt Crew Recordings this May with his 'Downstream' EP that features a remix from Jesse Futerman. Following on from his 'Square Lane' EP alongside Loz Goddard back in 2016, London-based dj/artist Harry Wolfman is about to return to Berlin-based label Drit Crew Recordings this May with a EP full of dreamy, gritty and raw cuts that have impressed us at the KOTT office. Wolfman has been steadily making inspired cuts since the turn of the decade, landing on labels like Lost My Dog, Wentz Records, House of Disco and Secret Reels as well as performing at many of London's coolest spots including the ultra cool Mick's Garage. 2017 seems to be a year Wolfman is going to get his teeth stuck right into. This new EP opens with 'Fermi' a rhythmic percussive-led sound that opens with warm pad washes, evolving synth melodies that create a ultimately ardent groove that is underpinned by lashings of tropical funk. 'Ice Thin' is a slow-burning melancholic groove that's full of dusty percussive sequences based over subdued kicks. Driven by a lazy, chilled swing that's laced with nice vocal ad-libs and gorgeous synth work, this is perfect for summer terraces. Things get a little stormy when title-track 'Downstream' arrives. Driven by solemn kicks and weathered fx roars, this tightly-knitted number quickly comes to life with raw bass tones, glitchy percussive hits and maddening arp chords. A little deranged but we dig it. Toronto’s Jesse Futerman takes on 'Ice Think' next creating a cinematic soundscape based on riding drum sequences, lonesome guitar chords and melancholic horn notes. Underpinned by that chugging drum sequence, this enigmatic journey of layers of beautifully arranged sounds is a highlight of the whole WP for us. Wrapping things up is 'Outro Version'. Opening with atmospheric pads, chopped up vox snippets and dazzling intergalactic fx, the cut is opened up to a funky drum sequence that brings an almost breakbeat sound the the table that begins to be coupled with cool guitar samples and modulated synth hits that ascend into futuristic blips that ride out till the dazzling end. A superb EP overall that really takes you on journeys into different raw, passionate soundscapes. Overtime we've listened to this EP we've discovered something new, not many artists can produce this level of interest so bravo Harry, bravo. Harry Wolfman's 'Downstream' EP will land on Dirt Crew Recordings from the 8th May, 2017. Pre-order it here.
