"Help Me Make It Through the Night" is a country ballad written and composed by Kris Kristofferson and released in 1970, 55 years ago. In 1982, Kris did a re-recording with Brenda Lee. It has been covered since by many other artists from Tammy Wynette and Johnny Cash to Elvis Presley, Joan Baez, Bryan Ferry, Mark Eitzel, Tyler Childers and Engelbert Humperdinck also as a duet between Michael Bublé and Loren Allred. Kris Kristofferson said that he got the inspiration for the song from an Esquire Magazine interview with Frank Sinatra. When asked what he believed in, Sinatra replied, "Booze, broads, or a bible...whatever helps me make it through the night." Listen to the Kings of La Jolla's rendition of this beautiful ballad. Featuring Mel Vernon (lead guitar/vocals), Yasha Souseff (sax). Lyrics Take the ribbon from your hair Shake it loose and let it fall Layin' soft upon my skin Like the shadows on the wall Come and lay down by my side 'Til the early morning light All I'm takin' is your time Help me make it through the night I don't care who's right or wrong I don't try to understand Let the devil take tomorrow Lord, tonight, I need a friend Yesterday is dead and gone And tomorrow's out of sight And it's sad to be alone Help me make it through the night Lord, it's sad to be alone Help me make it through the night Lord, it's sad to be alone
