http://ultimatesandbagtraining.com/pa... http://www.troymanderson.com I've been wanting to unveil this new/old training tool for awhile. I got it on the day I was leaving PHX, my fabricator brought it over and gave it too me. Now regardless of adding and extra 160# to your Uhaul or not OR Having to hide it from your wife, unsuccessfully. When someone offers you a 160# atlas stone you, take it. There first time I picked it up it felt like and old friend. So in my second contribution to Deadcember I wanted to unveil. Now before we get to deep in to this, stone lifting for me looks a lot like Squatober But that is just the way I'm built, if you say Josh do stones Yep the 'ol Yeti used to do stone too. It'd look a lot more Deadcember. The reason stone lifting falls into deadcember it two fold: 1) you'll never get a bigger posterior chain 'firing' that a big stone load to chest height or higher. 2) If you look at my set-up it is very analogous to sandbag back shoulder....spoiler alert. The second drill in the WOD is one with complexity and a little center of mass manipulation that rolls training stimulus back into the grip and hence the upper body. And those are Rotational Grip Cleans. This is a pretty complex drill but done with moderate load it is an excellent drill. What we are trying to achieve here is more hinge an 'less' squat via the hang position. Since load is moderate we add in the compliment of complexity with the rotational movement. The reason for the grip(tabs) vs. the neutral grip handles is that we raise the center of mass of the USB and those can get into a truer hang position as opposed to 'below the knee' position. With that I give you the Stone Cold WOD Plus I always want the skill drill first. AMRAP 30 min time cap Stone Shouldering or USB Shouldering x 2/2 reps Rotational Grip Hang Clean x 1/1 reps Enjoy
