The Story: The four original members of the group—Dark Side, Tony Effe, Dark Pyrex, and Dark Wayne—have known each other since childhood and grew up in the affluent neighborhoods of Rome (Monti, Trastevere, Campo de' Fiori). During their adolescence, they began rapping for fun until beatmaker Sick Luke, son of rapper Duke Montana, convinced them to seriously produce their own tracks. In 2015, their first mixtape, Full Metal Dark, was released as a free download, followed by three individual mixtapes: Crack Musica by Tony and Side, Succo di zenzero by Wayne, and The Dark Album by Pyrex. In 2017, their album Twins was released, debuting at the top of the FIMI Album Chart. In August 2017, the single "Caramelle" was certified platinum by FIMI, while "Cono Gelato" and "Sportswear" were certified gold by the same organization. In 2018, they signed their first major label deal, Universal Music Group, under which, in January, Dark Side's album, entirely produced by Sick Luke and titled Sick Side, was released. Also in 2018, a series based on the history and daily life of the Roman group was released, produced by TIMvision. However, Dark Side's subsequent departure from the group was crucial. After an initial estrangement and a statement from his father, he decided to leave the group and pursue a solo career. On September 28, 2018, the album Trap Lovers was released, the first without Dark Side and produced by Sick Luke, Chris Nolan, and Michele Canova Iorfida. It was the first musical work by Dark Polo Gang released solely under the collective's name, as evidenced by the absence of the trio's names on the cover, something that had not happened with their previous musical works. The album achieved good success in its homeland, and the related albums "Change Now" and "British" were certified double platinum and platinum respectively; a reissue, "Trap Lovers Reloaded," was released in 2019, supported by the subsequent singles "Gang Shit" (in collaboration with Capo Plaza) and "Sex on the Beach," which were also certified gold by FIMI along with the song "Taki Taki."
