China has launched military exercises around Taiwan, which it describes as a "stern warning" to the island's government. The move follows a meeting between Taiwan's President and the U.S. House Speaker. The three-day operation, dubbed "United Sharp Sword," involves rehearsing an encirclement of Taiwan, according to state media. The People's Liberation Army's Eastern Theatre Command said the drills will run until Monday. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has denounced the exercises and pledged to work with "the U.S. and other like-minded countries" in the face of "continued authoritarian expansionism" by China. #china #chinavstaiwan #taiwan #tsaiingwen #xijinping #latestnews #peoplesliberationarmy • Latest News Videos Subscribe to The Times of India's YouTube channel: http://goo.gl/WgIatu For daily news & updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India Facebook: / timesofindia Instagram: / timesofindia Download the app: http://toi.in/3SLUCa80 Follow TOI+ for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis Facebook: / timesofindiaplus Twitter: / toiplus Instagram: / toi_plus
