Donald Trump Announces ‘Tremendous’ New Sanctions on Russia

President Trump has hit President Putin with a “tremendous” package of sanctions against Russia’s two largest oil companies in a sign of the White House’s growing impatience over the war in Ukraine. Moscow responded that it was “immune” to the new sanctions, but Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian president and prime minister, claimed that they were an “act of war”. “The US is our enemy, and their talkative ‘peacemaker’ has now fully embarked on the warpath with Russia,” Medvedev, who is now deputy head of Russia’s national security council, wrote on Telegram.
