The visuals are an enticing but, ultimately, blank canvas of a relationship-in-crisis. All we know from the marriage of music and visual metaphors is that there is irreconcilable external and internal turbulence and something is about to blow... Either she will destroy or be destroyed, by him or herself. What got her to this point is for the viewer to decide. We only know her current frame of mind, as it is with a broken heart. The visual metaphors range from context-laden backgrounds (distorted, flickering neon and falling hearts, starry dreamscapes, flashing emergency lights, toxic black sludge and fallout symbols) to the dire foreground violence (as well as the sinister and sinisterly-charming looks) that thrusts things forward in time to an unflinching beat. The music video isn't a story about how or why a heart was broken. It also isn't moralizing any of their behavior. It is simply observing our protagonist's unfiltered side of a break-up and breaking point at the moment of collision. This concept was a product of tapping into the "feeling" the song emits. A feeling that is equal parts sexy and dangerous but also haunting and sad. The rest was forged out of production constraints. Leah and I owe our thanks to Gwen and Mark Parnett, who generously opened their home to us for our one-day shoot and to the impeccable on-screen talent of Troy Appel who worked marvelously opposite of Leah.
