Remote Villages Wait for More Basic Relief to Arrive

Remote villages in mountains of Nepal are waiting for more basic relief to arrive after the earthquake on April 25. In Sindhupal Chowk district, houses were flattened and people are in desperate need of help and are wondering where to start picking up pieces of their lives. An earthquake survivor named Bharat is trying to pick pieces of his life, whatever is left of it. Some parts of the cafeteria the family ran is now in shambles with everything else. "All I was concerned while I was digging this whole thing was to find my photo album, because I don’t care much about the property, but the memory attached is so painful,” said Bharat. Every survivor has a tale to tell. Anoher survivor Amrit Shrestha lost his family house too and it was all they had. "We don’t know how to survive. Now we don’t have anything here. Everything we owned in life, everything is gone," said Amrit Shrestha. Amrit was in fields with his family when his house fell and that's the reason his family is safe. Not all were as lucky though. In the neighboring area, four members of a six-member family got buried. Everybody in the village is living in a camp. After a week of the earthquake, the area is still short of tents, food supplies and medical aid. All injured are being treated in a field hospital, visibly not enough for the damage the earthquake left behind. "The district hospital has been broken down by the earthquake. After the seventh day of the earthquake occurring in this district, now the foreign agencies like Norwegian Red Cross are building a field hospital and I hope it’s gonna be better now," said Major Deepak Gurung, from Nepal Army. Humanitarian aid has started to get in. But not enough for the sheer size of the tragedy. Over 2,000 people have lost their lives in the district alone. With rescue reaching late, the work now is to recover bodies. "Some of these outline villages have not had any support since the earthquake. There are number of causalities without medical support that will be able to assist them," said James T., UK Rescue Team. More on: http://newscontent.cctv.com/NewJsp/ne...
