One of my favorite stories is in Mark 10 when Jesus meets the blind man Bartameus and asks him, “What do you want me to do for you?” Isn’t it obvious!? 😂 In Greek, thelō isn’t just “what do you want for dinner?” It’s, “What is your deepest need, that if it is met, will give you freedom?” I was unemployed in 2023 and blew through whatever savings I had in less than two months. I was working 12-14 hours a day and overnight at target. It was so hard, I remember crying one night from the pressure. A friend of mine asked me, “what do you want?” I said, “I just wanna pay my bills! 😭” In that situation, I didn’t want the lottery, or a new hellcat, or whatever. I just wanted to pay Verizon on time and in full. Reading Mark 10 again after that experience is so much more immediate. I feel the truth in my body because I’ve been there, in that place where God asks me, “What do you really want, son?”
