UN envoy Serry at airport after being ordered to leave Crimea

(5 Mar 2014) A special UN envoy arrived at Semfiropol Airport airport after being threatened by ten to fifteen armed men on Wednesday while visiting Crimea. The UN deputy secretary-general Jan Eliasson denied reports that UN envoy Robert Serry had been kidnapped, but said that armed men had ordered Serry to leave Crimea and go to the airport. Eliasson said when Serry refused to leave, his car was blocked. AP footage showed pro-Russian militia wearing military uniforms pressed against the door of a bakery in which Serry was believed to be. He then got into a white sports-utility vehicle with the men, and was taken to Simferopol airport.
