My Mom's Lung Transplant "Dry Run"

My Mom's Lung Transplant "Dry Run"

Tuesday, September 28th at midnight my phone rings and it's New York Presbyterian/Columbia Hospital in NYC. The Woman says "we got lungs, and we are calling your mom in as a back-up". I sped over to my moms and her husband, mom, and I headed down to NYC. We made it to the hospital in 2hrs 45mins. We were immediately admitted to a hospital room where pre-operative procedures began. They began with an IV, tons of blood work, and x rays. By 6:30am my mom was all prepped for the Operating Room. At 10am she was wheeled down to the OR waiting room, and around 11am the surgeon came out to tell us the lungs were not good, and that the surgery was being cancelled. We were then discharged and went home. We were told this could happen, it's what is called a "dry run". We just hope and wait for the next call now.
