Mena House is one of the world's oldest luxury hotels. Over 150 years, it has evolved from a royal villa into a global landmark. It was built in 1869 by the Egyptian governor, Isma'il Pasha the Khedive, as a hunting lodge and resting place. Nicknamed the "Mud Hut," it was used by the royal family during the Suez Canal opening ceremonies. In 1883, the lodge was sold to a wealthy British couple, Frederick and Jesse Head. They named it "Mena House" after King Menes, the legendary pharaoh who unified Upper and Lower Egypt. In 1885, British couple Ethel and Hugh Locke King purchased the Mena House and opened it as a public hotel in 1886. World War I: The lodge was requisitioned as a military hospital for Australian and New Zealand forces. World War II (Cairo Conference): In 1943, the hotel was the site of the historic Cairo Conference, where three leaders—Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Chiang Kai-shek—met to discuss post-war Asian strategy. In 1954, the hotel was nationalized by the Egyptian government. From 1972 to 2012, India's Oberoi Group managed the hotel for 40 years, overseeing extensive renovations and the addition of the Garden Wing in 1978. Marriott International took over management in 2015. The Garden Wing was rebranded as Marriott Mena House in 2018, and the historic Palace Wing underwent extensive renovations to join the JW Marriott brand. For over a century, the hotel has welcomed some of the most illustrious figures in world history. Royalty: King George V, Queen Mary, King Farouk Leaders: Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Field Marshal Montgomery Famous people: Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Frank Sinatra, Charlie Chaplin, and Charlton Heston. ■Table of Contents 00:00 Intro 00:36 Entrance 02:59 Lobby/Reception 04:04 Moving to My Room 05:49 Room Tour (Deluxe Room, Garden View) 13:25 Information 14:04 Map 14:39 Outdoor Pool 17:13 Lobby Lounge (with Historical Photographs) 19:12 Garden 20:27 M Club Lounge 24:12 Gym/Spa 26:40 Evening 27:20 Italian Dinner at Alfredo Restaurant 30:10 Indian Dinner at Moghul Room Restaurant 34:26 Turndown Service/Amenities 36:42 Breakfast Buffet at 139 Pavilion Restaurant 46:52 VIP Access to the Great Pyramids of Giza 50:07 Enjoy Sightseeing in Cairo from the Hotel 51:08 Room cleaning is once daily during the day. 51:45 Check-out ■BGM License Code: PDRCI86L7HLPMJDE #egypt #cairo #menahouse #marriottmenahouse #pyramids #pyramid #marriott
