Bob Dylan is the only musician to win the award. October 13, 2016 / FOX 21 KQDS NEWS TV Duluth, Minnesota — American Singer-Songwriter Bob Dylan received The 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for "having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition." "The rhythms that we use when we speak are directly connected to the rhythms that we use when we make music, so this is absolutely a fantastic connection for them to make this connection between literature and music" said Dr. Brett Jones, an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Bob Dylan’s name had been brought up as a possible candidate for the award in previous years, "There has been a lot of talk in the past that he would have a chance but no one really, he didn't win, he didn't win, he didn't win" but not many people were expecting Dylan to receive the honor this year.
