Bob Dylan is the only musician to win the award. October 13, 2016 / FOX 21 KQDS NEWS TV Duluth, Minnesota — American Singer-Songwriter Bob Dylan received The 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature for "having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition." "The rhythms that we use when we speak are directly connected to the rhythms that we use when we make music, so this is absolutely a fantastic connection for them to make this connection between literature and music" said Dr. Brett Jones, an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Bob Dylan’s name had been brought up as a possible candidate for the award in previous years, "There has been a lot of talk in the past that he would have a chance but no one really, he didn't win, he didn't win, he didn't win" but not many people were expecting Dylan to receive the honor this year. "This particular year there wasn’t a lot of talk this year of him being one of the main candidates, so this year, for him to suddenly get it, I guess I was a little surprised, but I’m absolutely thrilled," said John Bushey, Producer of the radio show, Highway 61 Revisited. Now, Dylan becomes only the 2nd Minnesotan to receive the prestigious literature award, and the only musician ever given the honor. "The way he connected language and poetry to music was absolutely groundbreaking," said Dr. Jones. Fans believe Bob Dylan’s Songs like "Blowin’ In The Wind," or "Like A Rolling Stone," were not only popular radio hits, but left a mark on a whole generation. "His lyrics have been quoted by presidents and many many many other very notable politicians and many other people in many fields so his influence is undeniable," said Bushey. So it’s a day of joy and celebration, for Dylan fans across the country and world, especially for fans in the area where he grew up, "The last person from the United States to win was even 23 years ago" and now many people who have been touched by Dylan’s music are speculating about his reaction to receiving a Nobel Prize. “I’m just a song and dance man," Bushey quoted the famous singer, "I don’t really know that he feels his lyrics are that influential he just writes songs."
