Lucas urges her to get up so they can go to the harbor and get to safety, but she is distraught and grief stricken. Lucas says he will lead the way. He gets the de Rune siblings to their feet and guides them forward. When Amicia tries to lift herself over an obstacle, she cries out from the pain in her shoulder. Lucas fixes it for her. It is agonizing, but she regains the use of her arm, and thus her sling. They reach ruins which open up into a large library above them. Amicia tries to find a way to get up to the top while Lucas tries to get through to Hugo. She pulls a large cart down from the library above. When she returns to Lucas he describes Hugo's mind as "extinguished." The cart rolls into a hole in the wall. It is impossible to climb on top. Lucas and Amicia try to pull it free, but they can't. Lucas notices light from behind it and suggests they push it forward to see what's behind. The trio find themselves in an enormous underground space full of rats. There are huge eggs of rats, which Amicia recognizes from the Carrier's tomb. Suddenly, Hugo starts to speak. It is cryptic and ominous, and Lucas realizes he is referring to the "Nebula" the old texts speak of. He seems shocked to find out it is real. Hugo says he is home, which Amicia protests urgently. Lucas tells her it isn't Hugo talking; it is the Macula trying to fill the void left by Beatrice's death. Amicia furiously exclaims that she can fix it, and they will find the Count and kill him. Lucas snaps that she has to stop- they need to leave La Cuna and take Hugo away from all of this. He pulls Amicia to Hugo and tells her to speak to him.
