Fireflies or glowworms are tiny soft-bodied beetles, so-called because of their ability to produce a soft green phosphorescent light, mainly during twilight, to attract mates. This is due to a chemical process known as bioluminescence. Every year, during the rainy season in June/July, a countless number of these "hotaru" appear in the small city of Maniwa in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. This natural phenomena attracts many Japanese photographers, specializing in long-exposure photography which captures the effect of “apparent motion”, resulting in an image of bright green blurred stripes. One of these photographers is Yuki Karo. Music: Dance of the Fireflies by Kavin Hoo
