Silent Hill, which began development that year, was to be Konami's response to Resident Evil. Instead, it became the opposite side of the same coin. Where Resident Evil played with more overt themes and threats, Team Silent took Silent Hill in a decidedly different direction by focusing on psychological horror. The release of Silent Hill in 1999 spawned a beloved franchise consisting of numerous sequels (2, 3, The Room, Shattered Memories, Homecoming, Downpour, Book of Memories), spin-offs (Orphanage, The Arcade) and adaptations (Silent Hill: The Movie, Silent Hill Revelations 3D, numerous dreadful comics). The initial run of Silent Hill games produced by Team Silent are widely recognized as masterpieces not only for their mastery of disturbing psychological horror, but for their excellent writing and storytelling as well. Silent Hill 3 is my favorite not just my favorite Silent Hill game of all time, but one of my top 10 favorite games ever. The Silent Hill series represents the peak of psychological survival horror and SH3 is the crown jewel in the franchise. This playthrough is being done on hard riddle difficulty and normal action difficulty mainly so I can show off some insanely hard puzzles like the hard mode version of the Shakespeare riddle. From episode 7 onwards the game is going to be fully rendered in HQ 1080p widescreen due to me finding the FOV fix to enable proper widescreen support and 1080p resolution. Hooray.
