Wrong-way Freeway Chase Ends in Crash (06/05/98)

Amarillo, Texas June 5, 1998 Police pursue a Ford Taurus going the wrong way on the freeway. The car is being driven by an 82 year-old man, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Police units on the other side of the freeway use their lights and sirens in an attempt to warn oncoming drivers. However, the elderly man ends up colliding with an SUV who is unable to get out of the way in time. Both the elderly man - and the SUV's occupants - sustain injuries, but all survive.
