In the past five days, five incidents of rape have come to light in Haryana. One incident involved rape of a 3-year-old child by a minor boy in Hisar district of Haryana. These reports came forth just as Haryana government announced improvement in the sex-ratio of the state, attributing it to the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign. Former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda has blamed the increase in rape cases on "lawlessness" and "lack of leadership" in the state. Manohar Lal Khattar, chief minister of Haryana, has ensured that strict action will be taken to punish the culprits and prevent such incidents from happening in future. He also appealed to the opposition to not politicise the matter.
