Two near miss thunderstorms - Bedford, UK (5th May 2023)

Convective season is off to a flying start! Widespread showers and thunderstorms developed over England on Friday the 5th of May. Lack of shear mostly prevented storm organisation but a few active thunderstorms still developed, one of which passed to my south in the afternoon. Radar showed signs of development at 3:30PM near Milton Keynes and judging by the direction it was moving, it was on course to pass just south of here. Initially the storm wasn't so active - there was only a strike every few minutes or so - but the lightning frequency started ramping up and the storm went a bit nuts, with lightning being picked up by my detector every 20 seconds at its peak. The storm rumbled away as it continued travelling NE with the odd bolt visible every now and then. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Music "Northern Lights" by Black Room Free music provided by TakeTones: https://taketones.com The radar imagery in the video can be found on netweather.tv. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm currently experimenting with how I edit these videos so I went for a more cinematic style in this.
