How to upcycle your furniture | Paint your bedside cabinet with Frenchic Paint

Over this weekend Mrs DIY finished a lovely 3 drawer bedside cabinet, it was picked up from a charity shop for just £10 and has been given a very royal makeover! Watch this step by step video on how she upcycled these drawers using @frenchicpaint (of course!). The drawers have been cleaned with Frenchic Sugar Soap, diluted down, 10% warm water with 1% sugar soap. A sponge/cloth was used to clean all surfaces of the drawers, rinsing off the sugar soap with warm water and a dry cloth. The drawers were given a light sanding down with a sanding pad which helps the new paint adhered to the surface. The drawers and main body of the unit was painted with 2 different Frenchic colour chalk paints - Pool Boy & Kiss Me Sloely. Mrs DIY wanted to create a patriotic/rustic theme to the top of the cabinet, this was done by using a 3-part napkin, the top layer containing the print was applied to the top surface and we sponged on some Frenchic Finishing Coat. The tissue was then laid on the centre at the top of the unit and using the same damp cloth used for the Finishing Coat, is dabbed on the napkin gently, allowing the finishing coat to bleed through and help bond the print to the top surface. You must be careful to not wipe the surface whilst wet as it will cause the napkin to rip, just a delicate dabbing motion before leaving to dry. You can then give a light sanding across the top that will help smooth the tissue out. Mrs DIY wanted to achieve an old vintage crackle effect, this often being done with 2 different colours, however she had another trick up her sleeve!Once the 1st coat of Pool Boy was dry she applied a layer of transparent Easy Crackle, this was left to dry before a 2nd coat was applied over the dried crackle - this is when the magic began! Once all the paint was dry, she masked up the blue legs and applied a thin layer of Frenchic Furniture Browning Wax before immediately wiping off with a dry cloth, this allowed us to see the full effect of the crackle whilst using the same coloured paints. Finally a thin layer of Frenchic finishing coat was applied to give it a durable finish and painted the drawer nobs in red, white and blue!
