A Historic Year: Prepare to Consecrate the USA to the Sacred Heart | Fr Pat SDB Homily | Jan 2, 2026

What does it mean to be truly free? Today, January 2, 2026, Fr. Pat, SDB, reflects on the upcoming consecration of our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He challenges us to remember that while we celebrate our national history, our deepest "independence" is found in the victory of Christ over sin and death. As the bishops prepare to entrust the US to the Sacred Heart this year, we are called to a period of interior preparation. Join us in praying for our leaders and for a renewal of faith across our land. May we become a people whose hearts are truly united to His. Today’s Mass Readings (January 2, 2026): First Reading: 1 John 2:22-28 ("Let what you heard from the beginning remain in you.") Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 98:1, 2-3ab, 3cd-4 (R. Alleluia: Hebrews 1:1-2 ("In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets; in these last days, he has spoken to us through the Son.") Gospel: John 1:19-28 (The testimony of John the Baptist: "I am the voice of one crying out in the desert.")
