In October of Covid-19 year 2020 we headed out for an Adventure Motorcycle Trip from Southern California to New Mexico to ride the NMBDR, aka the New Mexico Backcountry Discovery Route from south to north. All was well until we finished Section 5 in the city of Grants, New Mexico and learned that a cold storm was heading our way and we would see daytime highs below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. We decided against trying to finish sections 6 and 7 and headed to Flagstaff Arizona to ride the AZBDR, aka the Arizona Backcountry Discovery Route, sections 4 to 1 south starting in Winona Arizona and finishing at the US Mexico Border. Although we did get some of the storm in Arizona and rode in some snow and hail, it was a great decision and riding. We completed at the border and hit the pavement back to Southern California and ended up covering a total of about 3100 miles in 14 days. In 2021, our plan is to return and complete the remaining northern sections of both the NMBDR and AZBDR and the Colorado BDR, COBDR, south to north. For more information about BDR's, visit RideBDR.com
