Covid alarm; Why is India experiencing a sudden surge in cases? | The Newshour Debate

On this edition of the Newshour Debate with Swati Joshi we put special focus on the rising cases of Corona in India. India's battle against Covid-19 still continues as a spike in Covid number has been reported. India in fact has reported the highest number of cases in the last 3 months. What could be the reason behind this sudden spike? The Government is worried and has amped up the vaccination process to keep up with the Pandemic. Many states have also talked about imposing Lockdown and restrictions to make sure that India wins this battle.   Dr Shashank, Member Covid Task Force, Maharashtra, says that he does not think that the nation can afford another lockdown. Micro-containment, sealing of buildings and floors, etc are the right measures. Dr. Sudhir Bhandari, Member of Government Advisory Committee on Covid, Principal and Controller SMS Medical Hospital, says that greater the number of Covid patients, greater will be chances of mutation.
