Mauricio Toro-Goya: photography, politics and historical processes in contemporary image.

In this interview with Mauricio Toro-Goya, photographer and researcher, we discuss contemporary photography, image, and politics from a Latin American perspective. His work is rooted in the aesthetics of the Latin American Baroque, employing historical processes such as the ambrotype and the daguerreotype to consider photography as a political and conceptual language. These procedures do not operate as technical nostalgia, but rather as a stance against the neoliberal model and digital photography understood as a device for controlling and circulating images. From a young age, he has maintained a connection with Sergio Larraín, who plays a key role as a guide in his photographic thought process and practice. Mauricio Toro-Goya has held more than forty solo and group exhibitions in the Americas, Asia, and Europe, presenting his work in venues such as the National Museum of Fine Arts of Chile and Argentina, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Chile, the Manuel Álvarez Bravo Photographic Center, the Diego Rivera Museum, the Montevideo Center for Photography, the Taipei Museum of Art, the Penumbra Foundation (New York), and ImageSingulières.
