PAHO Urges Caribbean Nations to Prepare for Active Hurricane Season With the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season now officially underway (June 1 – November 30), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is urging countries across the region to activate contingency plans and strengthen their health systems in anticipation of extreme weather events. The call comes following NOAA’s forecast of an above-normal season, with a 60% chance of increased hurricane activity, including 13–19 named storms, up to 10 hurricanes, and 3–5 major hurricanes. PAHO emphasized not just the threat to infrastructure but also to public health, with risks including: Waterborne diseases such as cholera and diarrhea Vector-borne illnesses like dengue and chikungunya Respiratory infections Health systems are being urged to prepare for mass casualty management, medicine supply disruptions, and safe water access in the event of disasters. Rogers had been missing since May 27 after reportedly leaving home to visit a man believed to be her boyfriend. Family members, who launched a desperate search, were led to the property, where the pit appeared to have been recently sealed with concrete. Alongside her body, police found personal effects, including her purse, ID card, and Crocs. The boyfriend has reportedly left the island, and a postmortem is pending.
