AUKUS deal is a ‘step’ we need to take: Richard Marles

Defence Minister Richard Marles says the preference is to “operate as fewer classes as possible” after he was asked about operating three different submarines under the AUKUS deal. “This is the step that we have needed to take in order to close the capability gap,” Mr Marles said. Mr Marles said transitioning in and out of submarine classes will “ultimately be decisions for future governments.”
