In the 26th century, humanity has colonized other planets. The USG Ishimura, a massive mining spaceship, sends out a distress signal after discovering an ancient alien artifact on one of the planets they're mining. The protagonist, Isaac Clarke, an engineer, joins a rescue team to investigate the Ishimura. Upon arrival, they find the ship overrun by grotesque, mutated creatures called Necromorphs, which are created by an alien infestation. As Isaac delves deeper into the ship, he uncovers a sinister conspiracy involving a cult-like organization and a mysterious force controlling the Necromorphs. Isaac must fight to survive, uncover the truth, and stop the Necromorph threat from spreading.
