First things first, head over to cloudflare.com and sign up for a free account. Cloudflare offers a free plan that allows you to manage unlimited sites, along with pro plans that come with additional features. Once you're logged in, go to the main domain section. To add a new site, click on "Add a Domain." This is the recommended option because it will scan your DNS records automatically. Just enter your domain name without any prefixes like "HTTPS." I’m using "followfounders.com" as an example. After entering the domain, choose the option for a quick DNS scan. I recommend keeping the default setting checked, which slightly modifies your robots.txt file to block certain bots. If you're unsure about this, you can uncheck it, but I usually leave it as is. Click "Continue" to proceed. Next, Cloudflare will present you with some options for plans. If you're just starting out, stick with the free plan. You can manage multiple sites without any hassle. After this, you might need to adjust some DNS settings if the domain was linked elsewhere, which I had to do for this video. Now, Cloudflare will show you the name servers you need to set up. For my registrar, NameCheap, it provided two name servers named Brady and Karina. You’ll need to copy these and go back to your registrar’s dashboard. Navigate to the main domain section and find the name server settings. Switch from basic DNS to custom DNS and paste in the two name servers you copied from Cloudflare. Once you save these settings, NameCheap will process them. Keep in mind that the propagation might take up to 48 hours, but it's usually much quicker—often just a few minutes. In my case, it was almost instantaneous, and Cloudflare confirmed that my site is now protected. Now, I won’t dive into all the Cloudflare settings since most of them are already optimized by default. However, I do recommend enabling "Always Use HTTPS" for added security. This is crucial because Google prioritizes HTTPS sites in search results. Another important setting is HSTS, which adds an extra layer of security. You’ll get a warning about potential issues, but if anything goes wrong, you can always turn it off. I suggest enabling it for six months. Lastly, check the minimum TLS version. I recommend setting it to 1.2 instead of the outdated 1.0. This will help ensure that your site is secure and compatible with most modern browsers.
