More games should have reversal segments, and we're bringing in Donkey Kong to challenge the system and pave new paths! It's GNOK time! What is GNOK? Well, it's not a word that carries any particular meaning. We needed a way to gauge this challenge's success, and the KONG letters in the Donkey Kong Country games are the perfect collectible candidate. Being ordered and lettered, we can stress test levels by aiming to collect these floating squares in reverse direction. G, N, O, K. Collecting all four to spell out GNOK means the stage can be fully completed backwards, that's it! That's all the word ever meant. And honestly, Donkey Kong Country Returns deserves more attention. I believe this game stands on its own among the other entries in the series, but I wasn't ready to jump back into the Minimum Banana Challenge yet. Turns out GNOK may have been just as difficult and complicated though, what in the world. I originally envisioned this as a simple, 30 minute detour, but turned out to be a massive effort. Multiple save files, grinding out coins to buy green balloons, playing a course completely blind? Still, glad we got another challenge video on the channel. I sure hope you enjoy this breakdown for an overshadowed gem of a game, and also hoping my next video is a shorter one (please).
