Total War: SHOGUN 2 Challenge: Can 10 'Takeda Fire Cavalry' take on Oda Long Yari Wall? Clan: Takeda vs Oda Battle Difficulty: normal 10 Takeda Fire Cavalry vs 1 Oda Long Yari Ashigaru (yari wall) Takeda Fire Cavalry are most similar to Yari Cavalry, but with superior attack skill, armor, and much better defense. However, Takeda Fire Cavalry have an inferior charge to Takeda Yari Cavalry. Unlike Yari Cavalry, Takeda Fire Cavalry inspire nearby units in a fashion similar to generals. Despite their overall superiority, Takeda Fire Cavalry only cost slightly more to train and have the same upkeep costs as Yari Cavalry. Their requirements are very reasonable too, requiring only a basic stables as well as proving grounds, which are already conducive to training cavalry anyway. Oda Long Yari Ashigaru are twice as expensive to train and maintain as Oda Yari Ashigaru, but have much better melee attack and anti-cavalry bonuses, along with slightly better armor and morale. The longer spears of the Oda Long Yari Ashigaru force opponents who attack frontally to wade through sharpened spears for a few meters before even beginning to engage the men holding them, making the Oda Long Yari Ashigaru with levelled spears fight much more effectively than what their stats may suggest. Oda Long Yari Ashigaru in Yari Wall can comfortably defeat nearly any other standard unit in Total War: Shogun 2, defeating even the anti-infantry oriented Katana Samurai with half their men remaining. This is only true when they are fighting their enemies head-on, however, and Oda Long Yari Ashigaru are highly vulnerable to being charged from the flanks or rear. They are also highly weak to missile attacks due to their poor armor. The longer spears of Oda Long Yari Ashigaru mean that they can be used in conjunction with other long yari or yari ashigaru to form double Yari Walls, which are devastating when used in defense. Matchlock units can also be placed just in front of long yari ashigaru, allowing them to fire at charging enemies while still enjoying the protection of the extra long spears.
