Review: Rosbaud's Remaining SWR Sibelius, Finally!
These performances of Sibelius' Symphonies Nos. 2, 4 and 5 (plus three orchestral songs beautifully sung by Kim Borg) are full of individual touches. Yes, the Baden-Baden radio orchestra isn't great, and the sonics are broadcast-quality mono, but these were all studio recordings and so have a polish and accuracy that concert versions would have lacked. If you've been collecting this very worthy Rosbaud series, or just love Sibelius and want something really different but still persuasive, then this two-disc set will be a mandatory acquisition.
