Measles is among the most infectious diseases affecting human beings but luckily can be prevented by measles vaccine. It is estimated that approximately 80,000-100,000 Indian children die each year from measles and its complications making it one of the leading causes of child deaths in the country. The first dose of measles vaccine is given through routine immunization to all children at the completion of 9 months of age. To sustain high measles vaccination coverage and also for providing a second opportunity for the unprotected children, the Government of India launched the second dose of measles vaccination through Measles catch-up campaign in 14 high risk states. This campaign aims to vaccinate all children between 9 months to 10 years of age irrespective of their previous measles vaccination status. In rest of the states the measles second dose will be provided through routine immunization. The video captures the Measles catch up campaign in a village in the state of Gujarat.
