Sounds of the 80s. All the UK's Number One Hits.

In the 1980s, the UK number 1 singles reflected an eclectic, fast-changing pop landscape. Early in the decade, post-punk and new wave acts like Blondie, The Jam, and The Police dominated before Synth-pop surged mid-decade with bands such as The Human League, Soft Cell, and Duran Duran reaching the top. Superstars including Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince brought polished global pop to the charts and charity singles became landmarks with “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” (1984) and “Let It Be” (Ferry Aid, 1987). Power ballads by Jennifer Rush, and Foreigner and rock anthems by Queen and U2 all claimed the number 1 spots. Stock Aitken Waterman shaped the late 80s with Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, and Jason Donovan. The decade ended with dance and house influences rising through acts like Black Box.
