(6 Nov 2019) Iraqi security forces have clashed with protesters in Baghdad as anti-government demonstrations continued. Gun fire was heard as forces attempted to move on protesters from a demonstration near the Al-Shuhada bridge in the capital on Wednesday. Most protesters ran away from the advancing security forces, but some demonstrators hurled stones at them. Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets in recent weeks in the capital, Baghdad, and across the Shiite south, demanding sweeping political change. The protesters complain of widespread corruption, a lack of job opportunities and poor basic services, with regular power cuts despite the country's vast oil reserves.
