This is a powerful and complete story we don't see see very often as we tend to get only the recipient part of the story. Many times the the donor families are in too much pain to respond or want to connect with the recipient. The process works in such a way where the recipient initiates the connection with the donor family then an OPO (organ procurement agency) contacts the donor family to see if they'd like to connect. In this case the OPO is Gift of Hope out of Chicago. In this specific case the only solution left for Hannah was to get an osteochondral graft for the defect in her knee. All in all, this is a great example of how donation helps people improve their quality of life, how a connection helps those who have lost loved ones heal, and why donation is so vitally important.
