Democrats Say It's Time to Pass More Legislation on Guns & Background Checks | EWTN News Nightly
As President Joe Biden calls on Congress to take action, Democrats say several bills need to pass to close loopholes in the sales of guns and background checks. This as Republicans say more gun restrictions is not the answer. Real reform has not taken place for nearly 3 decades. Democrats are sounding the alarm and say that now is the time to pass measures that are already in the pipeline, even if that means shortening the Memorial Day break. Majority Whip, Senator Dick Durbin says, "Unfortunately in the United States it has become commonplace. Unfortunately in the United States if we wait a few more days there's bound to be another mass killing." Democrats say it's time to pass legislation to expand background checks on those who buy guns on the internet and at gun shows. Within hours of Tuesday's shooting, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer cleared the way to force votes in the coming days on that bill and another to lengthen the waiting period for gun buyers flagged by the FBI's instant background check system.
