Gedonia (2020, PC STEAM Early Access Gameplay, 2020)

Gedonia is an open world Adventure Action RPG game released in Early Access as of June 1st, 2020. The game is developed and published by Kazakov Oleg. NOTE: This coming review is for the Early Access of the game released on the 1st June, 2020. I am sure this review will be changed over time so the marks I give it for the time being are for what the game's state is in as of the date mentioned above. STORY: 5/20 Not really much of a story in game as of yet, it is stated in game that cutscenes will eventually be put in so I am guessing those will be story plot related. To put it bluntly, as it is now you are just an adventurer and already known by the local town you head to at the beginning, so you just want to head out and adventure around and explore and learn life skills. The few quests available have some type of small story to each of them. GRAPHICS: 15/20 Graphically, this game looks really nice, I wasn't much of a fan of the whole limited character looks though for the time being, more of a selection I feel needs to be put in place. I think the graphics kinda remind me of a lesser graphical version of Zelda: Breath of The Wild. The NPCs all look great and unique, along with the surrounding creatures, animals, and monsters, they all look great. The fields, forests, mountains, lakes, and so forth all make the game's world look alive, vibrant and big enough to explore and get lost in. I really do like this graphical art style but I did notice a couple of graphical glitches when playing, especially when choosing the hair for my character. SOUND: 8/20 Being as the game is in EA, I wasn't expecting much, I got that engrossed in playing the game i'm going to have to go watch this video again to rate the sound because I can't actually remember it, LMAO! Sounds of wind, bushes, grass, animals attacking and dying, the NPCs talking, human enemy shouting, etc all sound great and add to the already vibrant world to give it more of a realism feeling to it. Okay, so I think there's just one overworld theme that slightly changes, its very fantasy medieval type sounding but at certain points very chilled and relaxed also, I don't think it would make a bad OST if your into relaxed and chilled music. As it stands though it seems there's not many full tracks in the game at all, though I did only play for about an hour. GAMEPLAY: 12/20 So, the game starts with you choosing your look and then few character stat bonus, such as strength, agility, charisma, and intellect, choosing these I gather is what makes your character more defined to start with, so choosing Intellect would be better if your going to play mage, etc. You can assign skills and items to keys through 1 to 7 and then Q and E, key 8 is what is used for your mount. Left mouse click is for swinging your weapon and right click nothing to start off with but you can put whatever skills into the mouse clicks, I kept left click blank and then a sword skill in right click, later put my shield defend in right click. Gathering is pretty simple as long as you have the required tool, such as pickaxe for mining, etc. F key does practically everything else, farming, gathering, talking to Npcs, looting killed enemy bodies, etc. The game don't have controller support yet but the single person who's project this is has stated this will have controller support eventually. Now onto what I didn't like about the gameplay, it takes too long to draw your weapon, your energy bar that determines how long you run, or skills used works, this bar drops extremely fast so its pretty much 1 skill use, few swipes on weapon then move around so the enemy don't hit you so your energy bar fills back up for you to repeat, it's not a very exciting battle mechanic. The horse movement and turning, it sucks, it feels like Resident Evil 1 type controls off the PS1/PSX, I hate movement like that. There's quests already in place with multiple ways to complete them, like the horse quest.. you can pay 30 Gold, go investigate and kill monsters in a small forest, or have a certain amount of Charisma, so there's plenty of replay value here. SYSTEMS: 12/20 There's a couple of systems already in place for it's EA phase, limited questing, limited crafting, horseback riding, limited magic/melee/ranged types of attacking. there's also looting, exploring, house building, different campaigns to choose from, and yet more still to come. It's very impressive for what this single developer has created already. OVER ALL: I'm looking forward to see where this game heads in the future, would I recommend it? yes, it's a great little open world EA game. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in trying this EA game out then you can find it on STEAM here.. https://store.steampowered.com/app/11...
