Paul Charge Brothers and Sisters in Christ a Blessed Sunday to you and yours, family of God, whether here at home or abroad, we are happy you all are worshipping with us. Special welcome to our preacher Sis Reilette Allen. Ministry of the Word: 5th Sunday in Lent Liturgy of the Word Jeremiah 31: 31-34 Psalm 51: 1-13 Hebrews 5: 5-10 St. John 12: 20-23 Collect BCP Pg 164 Hymns: Fifth Sunday in Lent: Opening Hymn: 387 Gradual: 147 Offertory: 522 Blessing: 170 Closing Hymn: I can not Tell (Crusade 44) Reflection As we begin the fifth week in Lent, the Collect for today calls attention to the state of our hearts and asks God's help to get them right with Him.   Throughout the four-preceding week, we ought to have been walking daily with our Lord, in grateful penitence, as we once again commemorate His mighty saving work for mankind, some two thousand years ago.  Our hearts should indeed be ready to re-contemplate His suffering, His death and the ushering in of the eternal joy of Easter, through His resurrection. But are our hearts ready? Are we jaded and distracted by this world and current events?  Have our hearts and affections drifted from our God and His commands, due to our concentration on things temporal? Have we ignored the true blessings that God allows us to receive through His bounteous love and grace? Have we allowed ourselves to be dominated by selfish and self-seeking thoughts and actions? Have we shifted our concerns from service to God and our fellowmen, to service to self. It is high time for our Lenten self-examination and if self-assessment finds us wanting, let us take immediate remedial action. If we have slipped away from God, we know we are heading in the wrong direction and the real joy of Easter will be outside our grasp. It is necessary for us to pray this Collect and ask God's help to get us back into the relationship He desires of us. Let Him rule our hearts and affections and keep them in the holy order which is pleasing to Him. He can and will save us whenever we call and He will enable us to keep our eyes on our promised heavenly rewards. Amen.........adapted HOLY WEEK SERVICES MAR 24-29, 2024 Palm Sunday March 24...Service will start at the Rubis Gas Station with the Liturgy of the Palms and then a march of witness through the Cumberland Community to the Church Our Celebrant and Preacher will be Rev.
