Total War: SHOGUN 2 1vs1: Loan Sword Ashigaru vs Katana Samurai (REMATCH) Clan: Ikko Ikki vs Takeda Battle Difficulty: normal Loan Sword Ashigaru with General: Inspire, Rally activated Katana Samurai without General Along with Mori Wako Raiders, Loan Sword Ashigaru are some of the only katana ashigaru in Total War: Shogun 2. Available from the very beginning of the campaign, they are very cheap troops, and are highly effective against the Yari Ashigaru fielded by most armies in the beginning of the campaign. Loan Sword Ashigaru even fare well against Yari Samurai, winning in head on fights. However, Loan Sword Ashigaru have the weaknesses of other katana units, and are highly vulnerable to cavalry and ranged attacks. Despite being katana armed infantry with a good attack stat, they can still be overpowered by more expensive melee infantry, such as katana or naginata samurai. Later in the campaign, the Ikko Ikki gain access to Katana Ronin, who are more skilled and better armored than Loan Sword Ashigaru. However, Loan Sword Ashigaru are still cheaper to train and maintain, and are often more cost effective. Loan Sword Ashigaru have an extremely low upkeep costs, being 33% lower than that of Yari Ashigaru, but they are much more expensive to recruit. In the long run, Loan Sword Ashigaru are the most cost efficient garrison troops. While they are normally exclusive to the Ikko Ikki, Loan Sword Ashigaru can be bribed by Metsuke to serve under any faction. They are valuable targets for bribing due to their cost efficiency, though by the time bribing becomes a viable option (due to its high cost, it's generally not feasible in the early game) better troops are likely to be available. Katana Samurai wield katanas, excellent anti-infantry weapons. Katana Samurai have good armour and average defence; they can withstand prolonged melee but, due to their lack of a bonus against cavalry, are highly vulnerable against them--particularly if charged from the flanks or rear. Katana Samurai are particularly valuable in the early-mid game, where other factions ubiquitously field Yari Ashigaru and Bow Ashigaru, with few fielding substantial cavalry or other anti-infantry forces. They still suffer if they have to fight frontally against a Yari Wall, however, and function best when attacking from the flank or rear, and particularly when they're well-rested and fighting downhill. Shimazu Katana Samurai have +2 melee attack and +1 melee defense when compared to their standard counterparts. They are also cheaper to train and maintain (costing 650/125 instead of 750/150). In addition, while other clans can only recruit katana samurai after upgrading their training facilities, the Shimazu Clan can recruit katana samurai from the beginning of the campaign, from a region that gives them additional armor and melee attack. When trained by the Date Clan, Katana Samurai have +2 charge bonus. The Date similarly benefit from a blacksmith in their home region. Hattori Katana Samurai have kisho training, allowing them to be placed anywhere on the battlefield except the opponent's deployment zone during the deployment phase of a battle. They can also hide in light scrub. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Please join me to get access to membership perks: / @totalwar1vs1 My Discord channel: / discord #totalwar1vs1 #totalwar #shogun2 #totalwarbattles
