The thieves' gang Tantalus has been tasked with gaining access to the royal castle and kidnapping Crown Princess Garnet. Contrary to Tantalus' expectations, the princess offers no resistance during her abduction, instead fleeing the castle of her own accord. The princess has long suspected that something is amiss with her stepmother, the queen. The game's main character is Zidane Tribal, whose distinctive features include his monkey-like tail and his sharp tongue. Zidane is a member of Tantalus and was raised by their leader, Bark. As it later turns out, the kidnapping was commissioned by Cid Fabel, Grand Duke of the neighboring kingdom of Lindblum. The Grand Duke has also noticed Brane's change in behavior and hopes to learn details about the goings-on at the Alexandrian court from his niece, Garnet. The game's main character is Zidane Tribal, whose most distinctive characteristics include his monkey-like tail and his loose tongue. As the game progresses, more characters join the party, and, true to the series, it soon becomes clear that Brane is not the true evil of the story, but rather is under the control of other powers pulling the strings from behind the scenes. ► The World of FINAL FANTASY IX ◄ ─────────────────────────── Gaia, the game world of FF IX, consists of four continents. The largest of these, and also the most densely populated and politically and technologically advanced, is the Misty Continent, whose name derives from the thick blanket of fog that covers the landmass. The other continents of Gaia are the Outer Continent, the Closed Continent, and the Forgotten Continent. The continent of mist is politically divided into the kingdoms of Alexandria and Burmecia, as well as the Grand Duchy of Lindblum. Burmecia is largely destroyed by Alexandria during the course of the story, and large parts of the city-state of Lindblum are also destroyed by Alexandrian attacks. Alexandria itself ultimately falls victim to an attack by Kuja, which destroys large parts of the city, including the castle. Aside from these three states, there appear to be no more complex political systems on Gaia. In addition to Gaia's four continents, there is the parallel world of Terra and the Place of Memory, the latter being a transcendent projection of all human memories. While Final Fantasy VIII can be most accurately categorized as science fiction or perhaps even cyberpunk, and Final Fantasy VII is fully committed to this genre, the world of Final Fantasy IX can be classified as steampunk, similar to Final Fantasy VI. Unlike classic steampunk, however, the world of Final Fantasy IX is not based on Victorian England; Rather, it is a world inspired by the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. ♦ Source: Wikipedia ─────────────────────────── ► Game Details » ────────────────────────── | FINAL FANTASY IX 2000, 2001, 2016 © SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD.
