Part 4: Sciame Construction President Joseph Mizzi on building Renzo Piano's Morgan

In Part 4: Mizzi continues the exclusive e-architect video series detailing Renzo Piano's first New York City project The Morgan Museum and Library. Interviewer Joel Solkoff began the series detailing Piano's Creative Design for the Morgan. Piano's Partner in Charge of the Morgan Giorgio Bianchi described his on-site administration of the Design. Frank Prial, Jr., executive architect for Beyer Blinder Belle, provided Solkoff a behind-the-scenes tour of the Morgan where Prial helped meet regulatory standards and demonstrated his specialty of restoration. Scott Hughes of Robert Silman Structural Engineering described management of the excavation; two-thirds of the Piano Morgan is underneath Manhattan deep into the hard schist. Now, it is time for construction. Sciame Construction, employing over 400 men and women completed, Renzo Piano's vision ++++ On the occasion of winning the prestigious Pritzker prize for architectural achievement, the Financial Times observed: "Piano's Italian roots are very key in understanding his work. In Italy it is easier than in many countries for architects and engineers to be closely involved in the construction process and to become developers. His family in Genoa were constructors and his decision to become an architect and to train professionally in Milan could have separated him from the daily realities of construction. In fact there was no chance of that because the joy of building had been bred into him from childhood." In this informal video, Joseph Mizzi begins the process of describing his work with Renzo Piano, the importance of construction companies being sensitive to the design goals of architects, and technological advances in the building industry.
