Who was sacrifice according to the Quran, Isaac or Ishmael? Surah 37: Who is this righteous son that Abraham prayed forth? 100 Abraham prayed, "Lord, grant me a righteous son". 101 We gave him the glad news of the birth of a forbearing son. Abraham sacrificed this son: 102 When his son was old enough to work with him, he said, "My son, I have had a dream that I must sacrifice you. What do you think of this?" He replied, "Father, fulfill whatever you are commanded to do and you will find me patient, by the will of God". 103 When they both agreed and Abraham had lain down his son on the side of his face (for slaughtering), 104 We called to him, "Abraham, 105 you have fulfilled what you were commanded to do in your dream." Thus do We reward the righteous ones. 107 We ransomed his son with a great sacrifice 108 and perpetuated his praise in later generations. Who is this son who is glad news and righteous? 112 We gave him the glad news of the birth of Isaac, one of the righteous Prophets - Verse 101. God give Abraham, Isaac the glad news and a righteous son. 113 We had blessed him (Abraham) and Isaac. Some of their offspring were righteous and others were openly unjust to themselves. 114 We certainly bestowed Our favor upon Moses and Aaron 115 and saved them and their people from great distress. Abraham and his wife were old when they received the good news of Isaac: Surah 11:71 And his wife was standing by, so she laughed. Then We gave her good news of Isaac; and after Isaac, Jacob. 72 She said, “Alas for me. Would I give birth, when I am an old woman, and this husband of mine is an old man? This is something strange.” 73 They said, “Do you marvel at Allah’s command? Allah’s mercy and His Blessings be upon you, O People of the Household! He is Praiseworthy and Glorious.” A. Why there is no mention of the birth of Ishmael? B. Why is there no glad news mention about Ishmael? C. Why it only said Abraham and Isaac were blessed? Surah 37:112 And We gave him the good news of Isaac, a prophet from the righteous. 113 And We blessed him, and Isaac. And among their descendants are good-doers. And others who clearly wrong themselves. What happen to Ishmael? D. And why Ishmael’s name was never in Surah 37? Didn’t Abraham pray for a righteous son – Surah 37:100? And the fulfillment: Surah 37:112 And We gave him the good news of Isaac, a prophet from the righteous. Ishmael was patient and that is why he is the one? Surah 37:102 When his son was old enough to work with him, he said, "My son, I have had a dream that I must sacrifice you. What do you think of this?" He replied, "Father, fulfill whatever you are commanded to do and you will find me patient, by the will of God". Surah 21:85 Ismael, Idris and Dhul Kifl all were people of great patience. Is Isaac patient? He is a righteous prophet (Surah 37:112): Isaac was patient too: Surah 2:177 Righteousness is not determined by facing East or West during prayer. Righteousness consists of the belief in God, the Day of Judgment, the angels, the Books of God, His Prophets; to give money for the love of God to relatives, orphans, the destitute, and those who are on a journey and in urgent need of money, beggars; to set free slaves and to be steadfast in prayer, to pay the religious tax (zakat) to fulfill one's promises, and to exercise patience in poverty, in distress, and in times of war. Such people who do these are truly righteous and pious. So Isaac was patient in distress for he was about to be sacrifice by his father, Abraham. Surah 6:84 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob—each of them We guided. And We guided Noah previously; and from his descendants David, and Solomon, and Job, and Joseph, and Moses, and Aaron. Thus We reward the righteous. http://quran.ksu.edu.sa/tafseer/qortobi/
