Protecting children from harmful toys

Parliament will discuss with representatives from the European Commission and other invited experts the revision of the current Toy Safety Directive, which has been in force since 2011. The new proposal, published by the Commission in July 2023, aims to make toys even safer for children, as well as further strengthen the single market for toys. Toys marketed in the EU must be safe for children. EU rules are among the strictest toy safety standards in the world, including in relation to the use of chemicals. However, in order to keep ensuring the highest standards, the legislation has to be updated and improved as necessary. During the debate, members of Parliament's internal market and consumer protection committee will have the chance to ask questions to the Commission representatives and experts.
