The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly signing up point guard Dennis Schroder, who was without a team until very recently. According to multiple sources, the two parties have agreed on a one-year contract for $2.64 million, the minimum salary for someone with his experience. Head coach Darvin Ham will bring on board a player he is already familiar with. When Ham was Mike Budenholzer’s assistant at the Atlanta Hawks, one of the team’s pillars was the German point guard. The newly appointed LA coach knows Schroder perfectly and will know how to take advantage of his skill set. Schröder was with the Lakers in the 2020-21 season, recording an average of 15.4 points and 5.8 assists per game. The team had just been champions but did not retain the crown. Injuries to LeBron James and Anthony Davis and the poor connection between players ended with the Phoenix Suns beating them in the first round. After that, Schroder had an offer to renew for a total of $84 million, but he rejected the option to try to get a bigger contract. However, he ran out of options and ended up going to the Boston Celtics for only six million. He was then transferred to the Houston Rockets in a trade for centre Daniel Theis and ended the season with only 15 games played due to a shoulder injury. News of the 29-year-old’s new contract came out soon after the 2022 EuroBasket semifinal game between Germany and Spain, where he led all scorers with a tally of 30 points.
