Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Could Be Risky | Know the disadvantages & Side Effects

Lasik eye surgery can sometimes be extremely risky. It can even make someone blind or reduce the vision quality. Really...it is not for everyone. You can't ignore the fact that there is a huge competition in healthcare industry for LASIK. Sometimes it is seen that medical institutions DO NOT even educate the patients well about all aspects of this laser surgery. Most of the times, a rosy picture is painted about LASIK. FDA has cautioned against slick advertising or deals that sound too good to be true. Constitution of India gives you a right to know every detail of the surgery which includes procedure and risks associated. But nobody makes you aware. In such an environment, you have to do your homework before allowing someone to touch your eyes. If you are thinking to get your eyesight corrected through Lasik then a CLEAR UNDERSTANDING about the possible outcomes is necessary. So you don't get disappointed later. Let's get started. Perhaps you are expecting a perfect vision after the lasik surgery is done. Frankly saying , You are expecting too much. I will tell you the reason in this video. LASIK is actually a short form of Laser assisted in situ kerto mileu sis. hmmmm kerto mileu sis. quite difficult to pronounce. Right ? Well it just simply means reshaping of the cornea through laser. Under Lasik surgery, the eye doctor reshapes the front part of the eye by using a laser. This front part is called Cornea. But why does the doctor reshape the cornea? Is the shape not good ? The problem is that perhaps Your eye is not focusing the light properly on the retina this is the reason why everything looks blurry to you. This focus problem can be due to the improper shape of eyeball. It can also be because the cornea is too curved. So Mission of the Lasik surgery is to refocus the light on the retina by reshaping the cornea. That was about the procedure. Now I am going to give you some important key inputs that will help you to take the decision about whether you should get the lasik eye surgery done or not. You must understand that getting your refractive error corrected through surgery does NOT mean that you will be permanently free from it for life time. It CAN COME BACK if your eyeball changes its shape later. Quite possible if you are below 25 years of age. After crossing the age of 40-45 you may still require reading glasses to read a book. Which means you wanted to get rid of eyeglasses but again they are back on your nose. Let me surprise you now. Listen carefully. You should be comfortable to get lasik done twice. That's right. Twice. Each surgery costs approximately 1 lakh rupees in India. Two surgeries means 2 lakh rupees. This usually happens when there is problem with corneal flap. American academy of ophthalmology also says it clearly that sometimes instead of improvement, the patient can experience reduced vision quality after lasik surgery. Not just that but even permanent blindness can also take place which can not be corrected even through eyeglasses or surgery. Although it does not happen each time and chances are very less but this is something that you must be aware of. Do not expect 20/20 vision or perfect vision without eyeglasses. Additional treatment can be required and depending on the eye condition not every patient can not treated again. let's assume that you have a little refractive error and you are prescribed with 0.50 Dioptres eyeglasses. You plan to get this error removed through surgery. After the surgery is done you are not experiencing any improvement. So you ask the doctor. He tell you that the error can't be improved more than this. You find yourself back to square one. Source1 : https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/l... Source 2 : https://www.aao.org/eye-health/treatm... At the starting of this video I had said that Lasik is not for everyone. Let's understand why. 1) If your refractive error keeps changing then don't go for lasik. 2) High refractive error can't be treated with Lasik. 3) If your cornea is too thin then also lasik is not for you. 4) if you have a severe dry eye then you may not be the right candidate for this surgery. but how will you know whether your eye dryness is mild or severe ? Only doctor can tell. But as a conclusion I will say that Lasik is not entirely bad. It has made most of the patients happy. No rose comes without a thorn and we cant neglect the thorn. Just consult a good eye doctor. We at Zebriana eyewear are a great admirer of new medical innovations & technologies but we also believe that a patient should be aware of all drawbacks and potential risks associated with any medical treatment. Wearing eyeglasses is considered as safest way to correct the refractive error of the eyes. Infact most of the eye doctors themselves wear eyeglasses. Why ? there must be some reason.
