Benny Gantz, co-chair of the Israeli Blue and White Party, was quick to congratulate Peretz on his electoral victory over the phone Tuesday night, with the two expected to meet in the coming days, according to Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot. Former prime minister Ehud Barak, who announced his return to Israeli politics last week under a new as-yet unnamed political party, released a statement wishing Peretz luck, adding: “I believe we can do what is required and stand together, alongside other forces, to put Israel back on the right track.”
