Suspects flee Danville Police, pursuit ends after crash in Ola

A traffic stop initiated by a Danville Police officer for a seatbelt violation turned into a pursuit by the Danville Police Department with the Yell County Sheriff's Office joining in their efforts. On Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at approximately 5:14 p.m., Cpl. Mario Lozano with the Danville Police Department initiated a traffic stop with a a green Honda Accord after observing the female driver of the car, was not wearing a seatbelt. Upon making contact with the driver, Cpl. Lozano identified himself and explained the reason for the stop. After making contact with the female, Lozano recognized her and knew her identity to be Samantha Black, 29 of Dardanelle. Black provided false identification to Lozano, but after running her information, dispatch advised him after receiving the return, that Black had several outstanding warrants for her arrest, including a felony warrant for a parole violation. Black was accompanied by a female passenger, who was identified as Lacy Butler, 38, and after Lozano received the return on Butler, he was advised she had local warrant as well. Danville Police Chief Rick Padgett arrived on scene at the traffic stop to provide backup assistance to Lozano. After being advised the two females had warrants, Lozano returned the vehicle and informed Black she was under arrest for the outstanding warrants and instructed her to exit the vehicle. Despite Lozano's instructions, Black refused to exit the car. Lozano advised Black once again to exit the car, but after she refused to comply to the orders a second time, Black slammed the car in gear and fled the scene of the stop. Chief Padgett and Cpl. Lozano pursued Black, as she continued down several back streets until she traveled back around to Highway 10 East, where officers attempted to box her in on two different occasions. The pursuit headed eastbound towards Ola and later ended on West Spring Street when Black lost control of the vehicle and police were able to pin both suspects in. Aside from the warrants Black had outstanding for her arrest, she faces additional charges of Felony Fleeing, Aggravated Assault, Refusal to Submit to Arrest, Driving Under the Influence, Driving While Suspended, Reckless Driving, Improper Lane Change, Left of Center, No Proof of Insurance and No Seat Belt. Black and Butler also face the felony charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine, additional drug charges for various other narcotics found to be in their possession and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Syringe, Spoon and 2 sets of scales). Black and Butler were transported by Yell County EMS to Chamber's Memorial Hospital to be evaluated following the crash, but were later released into the custody of law enforcement officers and transported to the Yell County Detention Center where felony holds were placed on both women. Black and Butler will remain in custody as they wait to appear in a bond hearing where bonds will be set for both suspects. Chief Padgett offers his sincere appreciation to the Ola Police, Ola Fire Department, Arkansas State Police, Yell County Sheriff's Office and Yell County EMS for the assistance the agencies provided on the scene. Padgett would also like to thank the other officers involved in the pursuit, Sgt. Flores and Cpl. Lozano, who showed great courage and professionalism during the incident. Although damage caused to the officer's patrol units who assisted in the incident, no injuries were sustained by officers.
