Summer Cup, what to do about it? How do we handle this new set of restrictions and the new meta that comes with it? We bring something unique to the table of course! The Summer Cup is the penultimate special restriction cup for Go Battle League Season 11, with only the Fighting Cup to follow and a week of Great, Ultra and Master League. This cup permits only Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, Normal and Bug types to compete, and while dual typings are allowed, this does eliminate some of the top Great League picks and makes for an interesting selection. Since using Zapdos waaaay back in the Kanto Cup early last year I couldn't resist the opportunity to bring it back here, seeing as I'm lucky enough to have a shiny under 1500 that I can flex, it may not be Galarian Zapdos, but the work it can put in here is insane. To pair with it I've opted to double down on the shiny flex and bring Cradily. A sturdy Grass type Pokemon that thanks to its Rock typing, fast energy generation and access to Stone Edge, means that it not only isn't walled by fliers, it can one shot them as well as bugs that usually are waiting to counter most other grass types. To round out the squad I'm bringing the bulky and versatile Oranguru, this beast has fantastic coverage with foul play, confusion and future sight. Meaning in many lead situations this thing can force either shield or switch advantage, and if not can often setup Zapdos or Cradily with a perfect energy farm that allows them to threaten any of their counters and sweep endgames. Zapdos may not be a shadow here but it is still pretty squishy, so the bulk on Cradily and Oranguru goes along way. Overall this team performs better than expected, easily allowing me to hold my ground in the Expert Rank bracket and approaching the Legend Rank bracket between 2800-3000 ELO. If you don't have a Zapdos under 1500 you CAN use Emolga for similar coverage but not as threatening of a moveset. We even take a win against an Obstagoon lead which really should be the end of this team!
