1969 Curtis Byrd and The Mosquito Gang - Surfing Cocoa Beach

Curtis Byrd is a long tome fixture in Melbourne Beach. He is the originator of the Pineapple Contest and has organized it since it's inception in 1983. As a young man, he grew up in the Tampa area and traveled to Cocoa Beach in search of waves with a bunch of friends. Curtis' Dad nicknamed the group the Mosquito Gang. Curtis recently found this short reel of film which shows iconic images of the early shortboard era. I converted the film, did a short interview and added a song by one of my favorite surf groups, The Danny Morris Band. I hope you enjoy, Will Lucas
