(8 Nov 2019) UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has praised the work of local emergency services as he visited flood affected areas on Friday. Johnson said the local emergency services had "managed really well" and that the government was standing ready to help in any way they can. He made the comments during a visit the Matlock, a flooded town in Derbyshire. One woman has died after being swept away in the recent heavy rains nearby. The prime minister also warned that the UK was seeing more "serious flooding" and that the country needed to prepare. He added the recent flooding throughout the UK did not look like "something we need to escalate to the level of a national emergency." Yorkshire and Midlands have been the worst affected areas in the recent floods, with six severe flood warnings still in place.
